Latest:Graham Potter has been told why Thiago Silva has to start for Chelsea against Crystal Palace

BLACK FRIDAY
On Saturday, when Chelsea travels to Crystal Palace for their third London derby of the year, Graham Potter has an odd lucky charm in his squad.

This weekend, Graham Potter will manage his first Premier League game as Chelsea's head coach.

On Saturday afternoon, his Blues team will play their first league game in 28 days when they travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. The 2-1 victory over West Ham United in Chelsea's last competition game seems like an age ago in terms of football.

When Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea at the time, there were no indications — at least from the outside — that his position was in jeopardy. The German was let go from his position at Stamford Bridge four days later.

Chelsea has a new head coach in Potter, and as October approaches, fans are excited to see what the former Brighton manager will bring to the team. The 47-year-first old's match is a London derby against Palace.

The recent record of Chelsea in London rivalries is extremely impressive. The Blues have prevailed six times, lost three times, and drawn once in their previous 10 Premier League games against opponents from the capital.

All five of their most recent London derbies took place at home. A few weeks ago, they were scheduled to play Fulham away from home, but the game was postponed in honor of the Queen, who had passed away just days earlier.

Thiago Silva, in fact, has scored the most goals in the last ten league London derbies. One of the best defenders of his generation, Silva is well-known for his abilities, and at 38 years old, he's still going strong. But nobody anticipated that statistic.

In those ten London derbies, the Brazillian international has scored three goals, all of which came last season against Tottenham (in victories of 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and 3-0 away from home) and West Ham United (3-2 defeat at the London Stadium). At the same time, N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Hakim Ziyech each scored one goal, while Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Antonio Rudiger, and Kalidou Koulibaly all scored two.

In terms of scoring, Silva is in the lead, and let's face it, he was also likely Chelsea's greatest defense for the duration of those contests. For Potter to have the best possible start with his new team in the Premier League, a goal this weekend in another derby would be great.

But it's not yet apparent which defensive lineup Potter will use for Selhurst Park. The head coach used a 3-5-2 formation in his lone game to date, a 1-1 tie with Red Bull Salzburg over a fortnight ago.

In fact, we might see that again. We can infer from his stint at Brighton that he, like Tuchel, prefers a three-back setup. In defense against Salzburg, Azpilicueta, Silva, and Marc Cucurella started.

Wesley Fofana, the Blues' most expensive signing of the summer, started the game on the bench alongside Koulibaly, another high-priced player. Fofana, Silva, and Koulibaly appear to be Chelsea's strongest back-three on paper.

The official team announcement at 2 p.m. on Saturday will be very exciting for Chelsea supporters. Let's hope Silva is in the middle of the defensive trio on Saturday, if only for the sake of this piece.
