Chelsea Will reportedly be without Reece James for Southampton clash in the premier league
Chelsea will be without Reece James for tonight's game against Southampton, as the right-back has been forced to sit out.
Chelsea will be without Reece James for tonight's Premier League match against Southampton. According to reports, the England international has not traveled with the rest of the squad.
James has started each of Chelsea's first four Premier League games, contributing a goal and an assist each time. He will, however, miss the Blues' trip to the Saints as they look to make it back-to-back victories in four days.
This is a setback for the 22-year-old Cobham graduate, and Chelsea will be without one of their best attacking players.
Thomas Tuchel may now have to choose between Cesar Azpilicueta and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at right wing-back. Loftus-Cheek is expected to play on the wing, with Azpilicueta filling in at right center-back.
Chelsea's loss of James, on the other hand, will be devastating. On Saturday afternoon, the right-back played an inch-perfect cross to Raheem Sterling, who scored his second goal of the game in the win over Leicester City.
Jody Morris, a former Chelsea assistant manager, praised James after the game. Morris explained to Stadium Astro: "He can play on the right side of a three-man defense, right wing back, right back, or in midfield.
"I used to joke with him that we could put him in the middle and he'd still produce pure quality." That's exactly what he is. He's a complete footballer.
"We're blessed with great right-backs in this country, but he was the best player on the field today in the first half." His passing range really came into play."
